Under The Mango Tree by Bina Pillai

โ€œAs I gazed at the old shady mango tree, Bearing fruits golden yellow and fleshy, I remembered I met you that balmy summer, Amidst the pelting rain and peals of thunderโ€ A Huge baggage of emotions and tremendous amount of feelings have been well crafted by Author Bina Pillai in her book 'Under The Mango Tree'. The story is based in toxic patriarchal society and it highlights the fight of a woman against it throughout her life. Diya, who is married to a man, named Rajagopal, of her parent's choice instead of the man she loves, is all of a sudden exposed to the society overtopped and dominated by men with multiple levels of orthodox-cultural blots. Rajagopal's chauvinistic behavior forced her to sacrifice her passion, desires and dreams. Amidst all the struggles, she found a ray of hope and her life took some unexpected turns. The plot explores various abstractions of love and compromise - be it Diyaโ€™s optimistic spirit or her unconditional affection for Aditya, her misery or her ill-health. The authoress kept the novel medium paced with an easy flowing narration. It is highly engaging with descriptive details, intense emotions and memories that brings the action of the scenes to life. It floats around a strange homely atmosphere which adds a much realistic aura to it. These ensuing qualities continues all over the work, making this novel a page-turner. Overall, I would patently recommend this book to all who are a fan of intense personal drama.
